2026 Lexus vs. Acura Comparison

Lexus and Acura were founded within just a few years of each other, and since both are luxury brands created as counterparts to mainstream Japanese brands, comparisons remain inevitable. That having been said, the two brands haven’t followed the same paths, and there are now some significant differences between them. Lexus has become even more of a leader in the luxury segment, but Acura continues to lag behind. But to really understand the reasons why, we’ll have to get into the details of what sets these brands apart.

Lexus VS Acura – Lineup
One of the biggest differences, right from the start, is in the size of the two brands’ respective lineups. Acura lists just four current models, but even that is a bit of an exaggeration. While there are still leftover RDX units on dealer lots, the model is currently in a production pause, so if the dealership doesn’t have the RDX with the right options for you, you’ll have to wait a couple more years before they’ll build it. So, practically speaking, there are just three Acura models: the three-row MDX, the Integra compact sedan, and the ADX, a subcompact SUV. Obviously, there are quite a few vehicle types that aren’t represented in the Acura lineup, and a good place to look for them is Lexus, which offers 10 different models, each with a variety of different variants.

Lexus VS Acura – Electrification Technology
Lexus is unquestionably a leader in electrification technology, which is no surprise, since its parent company of Toyota was the first to popularize hybrid vehicles. But today the lineup extends beyond conventional hybrids and also includes plug-in hybrids and pure electric models. This is more than competing brands usually offer, but the difference is especially stark when compared to Acura, which offers no electrified models of any kind whatsoever. For those who want to save the environment, save money at the pump, or enjoy the performance advantages that come with electric assistance, Lexus is the only choice between these two. Here are the electrified models offered by Lexus:
- Lexus UX Hybrid
- Lexus NX Hybrid
- Lexus NX Plug-In Hybrid
- Lexus RZ (pure electric)
- Lexus RX Hybrid
- Lexus RX Plug-In Hybrid
- Lexus ES Hybrid
- Lexus ES (pure electric)
- Lexus TX Hybrid
- Lexus TZ (pure electric)
- Lexus LX Hybrid

Lexus VS Acura – Reliability
Every year, JD Power releases the results of the annual Vehicle Dependability Survey (VDS), the most comprehensive annual study of its kind for the US market. Lexus is named the most reliable brand in these studies more than any other brand, and it’s not a close contest. Lexus has been named the most reliable brand for 15 of the last 20 years (including this year*), and was still in the top five for the years it wasn’t first. Acura has never outranked Lexus in these studies, and a quick glance at this year’s results has it finishing much closer to the bottom than the top. The way the study works is to track the average number of faults per 100 vehicles during the first three years of ownership. This is what they call a PP100 number, and these are the numbers you see on the chart. There are also different models named as the most reliable in their respective categories, with the IS, UX, and GX all being named, and no Acura models named for any category. The IS was also named the #1 most reliable model overall.

Winner – Lexus
It takes a lot to compete with a brand like Lexus, and Acura just doesn’t have it. The small lineup, lack of innovation, and lackluster reliability hold Acura back from being able to compete, and it’s pretty obvious why. You’ll just have a better all-around experience with Lexus, and Lexus of Naples is here to help you find the Lexus vehicle that’s just right for you.
