About the Lexus RX Plug-In Hybrid

The latest evolution of the Lexus RX and RX Hybrid models takes the form of the RX 450h+ Plug-In Hybrid, which collects the best of those best-selling models and places it behind an in-line 4 plug-in hybrid engine. That, along with electric motors helping with both the front and rear wheels, helps the RX 450+ produce 304 horsepower and 168 LB-FT of torque. As impressive as that is, what’s even more so is the fact that it can go an EPA-estimated 38 miles solely on electric power before needing to use its hybrid capabilities.

Of course, the RX 450h+ still offers everything that makes a Lexus a Lexus. Its ride, while powerful, takes on a luxurious character, aided along by a standard Lexus Interface with 14.0-inch touchscreen display and Apple CarPlay® and Android Auto™ compatibility connected to a standard 12-speaker premium sound system (with a robust 21-speaker, 1,800-watt Mark Levinson® system available). The standard Lexus Safety System+ 3.0 makes the whole thing a worry-free experience.

What the Critics Say

With its sleek design, elegant cabin and smooth operation, the RX PHEV is a great option for a dinner date, a drive in the country or a trip to the garden store.” – U.S. News & World Report
As a plug-in hybrid, the RX 450h+ is going to offer a great mix of efficiency and up-front electric range. On a full charge, it has an EPA-estimated 38 miles of range, but in our Edmunds EV Range Test, we were able to get 42 miles of range on a test route that included a good share of highway driving and an average speed of 40 MPH.” – Car and Driver

What’s New for 2026

Lexus added an entry-level Premium trim to its PHEV lineup, including the RX 450h+, which reduces the vehicle’s lowest MSRP by nearly $6,000, to $66,780. Additionally, wireless phone charging — formerly an optional feature — is now standard across the board.

Lexus RX Plug-In Hybrid Interior

Luxury Redefined

It would be one thing if the interior of the RX 450h+ began and ended with that 14.0-inch Lexus Interface infotainment center, Apple CarPlay® and Android Auto™ compatibility, and two high-end sound system options. That’s more than enough to offer elite comfort and connectivity to the ride, but Lexus takes things to the next level. The seats themselves can be trimmed with available perforated semi-aniline leather, and standard functionality includes things like eight-way power adjustment, as well as heating and ventilation, in the front row, and multi-zone climate control that keeps both rows and up to five people comfortable. Details like ash bamboo and black open-pore wood accenting, and available thematic ambient illumination offer several cherries on top.

A Vehicle to Fit Any Driver

In launching the Premium trim for the RX 450h+, Lexus not only brought a superstar vehicle to a lower price point, it created a surprising ability for drivers to develop a luxury crossover SUV around their needs, which begins with that strong base trim. One way it accomplishes this is through the available Convenience Package, which adds a panoramic view monitor and related convenience and safety services, including Traffic Jam Assist, Lane Change Assist, and Front Cross-Traffic Alert. Lexus RX 450h+ Luxury drivers also have the option of the Technology Package, which is headlined by a Remote Connect subscription and a Digital Key that enables remote starting. It also includes a digital rearview mirror, which displays a real-time video feed from the rear camera.

Charging Forward

It’s worth elaborating on the electric and hybrid capabilities of the RX 450h+, because they truly are impressive. On a full charge — accomplished in roughly 2.5 hours with a Level 2 240-volt charger, or 10-12 hours with a Level 1 household outlet, when using its standard 6.6 kW charger — it can travel 38 miles as a fully-electric vehicle with 85 MPGe** of efficiency. Once those miles expire, it automatically and seamlessly switches over to conventional hybrid operation, offering a still-outstanding 35 MPG**. Whichever way the RX 450h+ operates, it still brings those 304 horsepower with it, leading to impressive performance statistics for its category, including a 0-60 time of 6.2 seconds and a top track speed of 124 MPH. Alongside everything else Lexus has to offer, the innovative powertrain of the RX 450h+ truly rounds out a complete package.
