About The Lexus GX
The GX is a different kind of Lexus. Yes, it’s luxurious and built with excellent attention to detail, but the GX is built for a different purpose. With tough, body-on-frame construction and standard four-wheel drive, the GX is built to take luxury off-road. The platform was developed in conjunction with Toyota, the builders of some of the toughest off-road trucks in the world. But the GX is still very much a Lexus, with a spacious and comfortable interior, a potent V6 engine, and cutting-edge technology. Not only that, but civilized road manners and an exceptionally good towing capacity make the GX very easy to live with, even for those who aren’t taking it off-road every day.
What the Critics Say
“For those of us who understand the spiritual essence and romance of a classic sport utility vehicle, but also appreciate some aspects of modern automotive technology, the new GX is simply the ultimate adventure machine.” — The Drive
“To these eyes, it’s one of the best-looking SUVs of all time. Clean, modern, classic. If it manages to survive the same 14 years as the last GX, it’ll still look great in 2038.” — Autoblog
Lexus GX Features
Unmatched Capability
The GX shares a platform with the Toyota 4Runner and Tundra, both tough and capable vehicles, and all of that toughness is retained in this luxury version. In fact, the GX offers some serious capability advantages over its mainstream counterparts. The first of these is the engine, a 3.4-liter twin-turbo V6 that produces 349 horsepower and 479 lb-ft of torque, more than even the optional upgrade engine in the 4Runner. It handles all kinds of terrain with ease and gives the GX its class-leading towing capacity of 9,096 pounds. Off-road prowess is provided by the standard full-time 4WD system, complete with a lockable Torsen® limited-slip center differential for proper power distribution. Available Adaptive Variable Suspension helps to maximize traction off-road and ride comfort on the road. The Overtrail and Overtrail+ trims further expand the list of off-road equipment, including 33-in all-terrain tires, a Panoramic View Monitor with Multi-Terrain Monitor, and Crawl Control. There’s also a third-row seating delete to make more room for your gear.
Luxury Experience
The real genius of the GX isn’t its off-road capability, but rather the fact that it can be so comfortable at the same time. Multiple seating configurations give you 5,6, or 7 seats, depending on your needs. Heated front seats are standard, and Overtrail trims come standard with a fast-response interior heater, for when your winter adventure gets cold and requires some fast warming up. A moonroof comes standard, and you can opt for the available Dynamic Sky™ panoramic glass roof for an even more open feeling. A large and easy-to-use 14-inch infotainment touchscreen comes standard and includes wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. A 10-speaker Lexus Premium Sound System comes standard, but audiophiles have the option of a seriously impressive Mark Levinson® 21-speaker, 1,800-watt Premium Surround Sound system.
Bold Design
Even at a glance, the GX looks both purposeful and sophisticated. The large wheel arches look good, but are also there to accommodate bigger off-road tires or, if you prefer, the 22-inch wheels that come standard on the Luxury trims. The interior is a superb blend of comfort and functionality. A prime example is the standard NuLuxe® upholstery, which is soft to the touch but also easy to wipe down when your wilderness activities get muddy. Triple-Beam LED headlamps come standard, providing excellent visibility, and most trims also add LED fog lights that add extra visibility, as well as a more purposeful look for the front fascia. And for a bit of extra styling flair, Overtrail trims are available in bi-tone paint.
