About the Lexus UX Hybrid
Within the Lexus lineup, the UX Hybrid presents a formidable subcompact luxury crossover that slots in nicely as a smaller option than the compact NX and the midsize RX. However, its size is far from a liability; in fact, it’s an asset in a lot of ways. At just 3,455 pounds (3,575 with available all-wheel drive), its 2.0-liter in-line four-cylinder hybrid engine and 196 combined horsepower become much punchier than might be expected. That gives the UX a soft ride during its appointed rounds, including anything from road trips to grocery shopping. Even more importantly, it helps deliver stellar gas mileage numbers that leave many competitors behind at the pump. The available F SPORT trims can take things a step further with performance-inspired detailing, but no matter your choice, you can rest assured that the safety and comfort that make a Lexus a Lexus will be included.
What the Critics Say
“Fuel efficiency is where the 2026 UX Hybrid shines. According to the EPA, the UX Hybrid returns 46 mpg city, 42 mpg highway and 44 mpg combined in front-drive form, and it loses only 1 mpg in each measure with all-wheel drive. That’s as good as a premium hybrid SUV gets, and it’s far better than any of the nonhybrid small luxury crossover SUVs.” – U.S. News & World Report
“Lexus makes it easy to dial in your preferences with available all-wheel drive and snazzy F Sport trim, which can be paired with an adaptive suspension handling package to add some drama to your daily commute. But even in its base form, it shines as a thrifty, upscale transport.” – Car and Driver
What’s New For 2026
There were only minor edits to the UX Hybrid line for 2026, though most of the changes were geared towards making top-end features more accessible. For example, the available 12.3-inch instrument cluster screen is now standard on the Premium and F SPORT trims, while a power rear hatch with a foot sensor is now standard on F SPORT Handling vehicles. Additionally, the Ultra White exterior finish is now available on the base 300h and the 300h Premium.
Lexus UX Hybrid Features
Class-Leading Efficiency
Hybrids are known for their stellar gas mileage as a general rule, but the Lexus UX takes things to another level by putting, in the words of Car and Driver, “a fuel-saving smackdown on segment favorites such as the Volvo XC40 and the BMW X1.” What sort of smackdown? Each front-wheel drive UX boasts an estimated 45 city and 43 combined miles per gallon**. If opting for the all-wheel drive version available at each trim level, those efficiency numbers are barely affected, settling at 44 and 42, respectively**. That’s not to say that it is all efficiency and no fun; its 196 combined horsepower is plenty for its size and gives it a refined smoothness and responsiveness on the road. It truly is the best of all worlds behind the wheel of a UX Hybrid.
Dazzling Technology
A lot of vehicles boast about their technological capabilities and comfort features, but the Lexus UX Hybrid has taken the additional step of including many of the best on the base 300h trim. The standard 8-inch Lexus Interface touchscreen serves as the vehicle’s infotainment hub, including Apple CarPlay® and Android AutoTM compatibility. In the 300h Premium and 300h F SPORT Handling, that screen is upgradable to 12.3 inches, but either way, you’ll receive access to a three-year subscription to Drive Connect, which includes cloud navigation and an intelligent assistant. Smartphones are well-considered in the UX as well, given that each vehicle includes Bluetooth connectivity and four USB-C ports, with wireless charging available as an option. All the while, dual-zone climate control, eight-way power adjustable seats, and leather interior details keep the ride comfortable.
Safety Comes Standard
Lexus left nothing to chance in the UX Hybrid. That begins with the Lexus Safety System+ 3.0, an industry-leading suite of driver assistance features including full-speed range dynamic radar cruise control, a pre-collision system with pedestrian detection, lane-departure alert with steering assist, and road sign assist. As it’s a Lexus, the UX certainly doesn’t stop there, as it also has ten airbags, a backup camera, a blind spot monitor with rear cross-traffic alert, and a safe exit alert. A five-year subscription to Lexus Safety Connect is also included with every vehicle, which includes features like Automatic Collision Notification, an SOS emergency button, and a Stolen Vehicle Locator. Put it all together, and it’s no mystery how the UX Hybrid received a five-star rating from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration and remains among the safest vehicles on the road.
